Backhand Slice: Keys For a Clean Technique

Hi tennis lovers! I am glad to be writing for you guys again. So excited for today’s shot. We have worked already in different strokes and I always give you guys some hints for what to do or how to use that shot.

This time, the backhand slice. A very effective but not very seen shot on today’s tennis. I like to teach and push always for resources and since I started to play on hard courts (indoors mostly) I found out how big is the slice as a weapon to actually break your opponent and create that change of pace. There are a couple of keys on this shot that you guys can’t miss:

1- Sit the weight of your body on the front leg.

2- Make sure you bend your knees to get from under the ball.

3- Continental grip is the most effective for this shot (however I’ve seen some crazy improvisations for this one, no judges).

4- Lean your body forward to create that “going after the ball” motion, but watch out with that elbow. I make a good mention of that elbow going up on the video, it is the most common mistake.

Hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did! See you next time!!
